General interest tour
Suitable for first timers on the Continent

We start the touring year with an inexpensive long weekend in France. This will suit riders who wish to experience riding on the Continent for the first time. Mileages will be easily manageable and well capable of modern day scooters.
The tour starts in Dover on one of the new SeaFrance ferries. These new boats enjoy the luxury of special tie down arrangements so that no harm comes to our bikes during the crossing. Once on French soil we ride on a combination of country roads and national highways with a stretch of autoroute thrown in to quicken the pace.
During this tour we will visit some of the attractions passed by normal tourists on their way south. After a gentle ride through rolling green countryside we shall stop at a favourite restaurant for our lunch stop before making our way to the hotel in St Omer. Here we enjoy free time before selecting a nearby restaurant for evening meal. The following day is reserved for siteseeing that includes a visit to La Coupole and Eperlecques blockhouse, launch pads for V1 and V2 rockets and both sinister legacies of WWII.
The show moves south to our second hotel on the edge of the great Forest of Compiegne, it was here that Joan of Arc was finally captured by the Burgundians and handed over to the English. It has a Royal Palace built by Louis XV but used mainly by Napoleon. In this part of France it is difficult to avoid reminders of the WW1 and WW2 we have the chance to visit the Clariere de l’Armistice and the railway carriage where the 1918 Armistice was signed.
As before the evening meal is a free choice for you to explore the town and select a suitable restaurant in which to spend the evening and exchange experiences with your fellow travellers.
Our journey back to the port will be a gentle ride through French countryside to savour more of the pleasures of riding the quiet ‘D’ roads.
