The Rally is now in its 24th year and is one of the oldest and best known events in Spain's motorcycle calendar. It is open to pre 1980 motorcycles although organisers welcome modern bikes but not as part of the rally. Riders of these machines are free to follow the rally routes providing they don't hinder the progress of the old bikes.
The hub of the rally has returned to its original location in Sardinero - next to Santander - where it was held in 1992, 97 and 98 but the routes are still through the wonderful regions of Asturias and Cantabria. The arena for the event is the wonderful Picos de Europa which processes some of the best motorcycle roads in Europe. The land scape here is rated as the best in Europe possessing wild and rugged back drops to the sensational mountainous roads.
In moving the rally location it has lost none of its traditional rally style it retains its famous route of 5000 bends, 500kms on all tarmac roads. The organisers have dropped the hill climb in favour of a program of motorcycle races around the Sardinero Urban street circuit which was used from 1947 to 1962. The circuit 1200m long around the Sardinero football stadium is for 2 and 4 stroke machines against each other and against the clock. No prizes, no money rewards but just for the fun of taking part.
The rally event retains its famous moto jumble which in its new gleaming sports stadium location last year displayed bikes from the Montjuich 24hour endurance races as well as many other displays.
