This year we are returning to our old format of highs and lows of Switzerland and from our past experiences bring together two of the most picturesque and breathe taking locations.
We meet together at our first hotel in France when after a get to know you session there is an evening meal waiting for us. Following breakfast the next day we ride to the Swiss border and buy the road tax 'vignette' which allows you legally to ride on Swiss roads.
The scenery changes once we have crossed the border at Basel, you know you have arrived once in sight of the snow covered peaks. Entering the Italian speaking part of the country our route takes us over the 2100m high Passo del St. Gottardo one of the oldest classic Alps passes. Here you have a choice of three routes – the standard red road, the 17km road tunnel or the more spectacular old pass road which is partly cobbled and is quite demanding.
Our well tried and tested hotel for three nights is in sight of the Lake Lugano where we have the opportunity to sample Swiss quality coupled with Italian flare. There is a free choice to wonder around the streets of this classy resort or take to the hills surrounding the lake for more curves.
More passes are programmed on our way to the next location in the German part of Switzerland.
Oberalp, Furka, Grimsel, Nufenen and Susten passes are all on route and all will have you gasping at 2000m high. As you will see it's a biker's playground.
The hotel here is located in the mountains above Interlaken where we have sensational views across valleys and lakes. In the evening we enjoy a meal together in the hotels panoramic restaurant.
After three nights in these lofty surroundings we return back to France and out final evening meal together.
