Aragon and the Spanish Pyrenees
An opportunity to ride some of the big French Cols
with the stunning beauty of the Aragonese Pyrenees!
The tour starts at Portsmouth where we board our Tuesday morning 09.00 hrs departure overnight cruise with Brittany Ferries, aboard their new ship the Galicia to Santander. With meal inclusive ticketing to include one complimentary three course dinner and one continental breakfast. Further, included for your comfort an upgraded, large two berth inside cabin, each air-conditioned with an en-suite, a flat screen TV and USB charging points as standard in your MSL rate.
Our early-afternoon arrival in Spain on Day One allows for quick progress to Canfranc in the heart of the Spanish Pyrenees. Our quality (half board) tour hotel for three nights is a former nineteenth century customs office and barracks of the Carabineros Corps. Once again as in 2019 we will be treated to some wonderful cuisine, whist enjoying views of the River Aragon and the Canfranc Valley from the hotels panoramic terrace. Day Two and Three allow for two full ride out days, with a good opportunity to enjoy the amazing roads and mountain passes straddling both sides of the border, including the Col de la Pierre St Martin and the Col du Pourtalet; perfect circular routes in opposing directions from our ideally situated location!
Venture over the border into France and you are a short ride from the start of the iconic D918 and ‘La Route des Cols’ which will lead you over the incredible Col d’Aubisque to experience some amazing, twisty turns and switchbacks with stunning scenery, leading to the summit of the Col de Soulor for a well-earned coffee!
A relaxed start on Day Four before a ride heading towards the Sierra de Guara region of Aragon, we will be sure to take some fabulous routes through the heart of this amazing Spanish region. The roads are flowing, twisty and mountainous in places with some incredible scenery along the way, including the amazing Mallos de Riglos towers in the foothills of the Pyrenees on the A-132 towards Huesca!
We will be at our second hotel for three nights, offering the opportunity for two full ride outs on Day Five and Day Six. Once again MSL returns here to enjoy the (half board) hospitality of this charming family run, rural hotel. This is a stunning region, dominated by the Sierra de Guarra mountain massif. Expect a twisty mix of mountainous and open aspect roads with some wonderful, traditional home cooked cuisine and an ice cold beer waiting for us on our return from a day out on the bikes!!
This is the perfect opportunity to explore some mazing roads and places over the next two days in this incredibly beautiful, historic region of the Aragonese Pyrenees; including the Valle de Benasque and the Ventamillo Gorge, along the inspiring N-260.
Finally the tour heads west to the outskirts of Pamplona on Day Seven and our quality (half board) four star transit hotel with a fabulous menu, for our final night’s stay in Spain. Day Eight is a scenic ride back to Santander, with the ability to take more time on our return journey to the port, here we re-board Brittany Ferries ship the Galicia for our overnight crossing back to Portsmouth at 17.30 hrs on the following Wednesday, with arrival at 19.15 hrs on Thursday evening. Plenty of time then to catch up with some banter on-board over a few beers, reflecting on our shared experiences on the highlights of this fabulous trip to the Aragon and the Spanish Pyrenees!
