The Vosges and Black Forest
Not quite the Alps but very nearly, ride the amazing B500!
We are going back to the iconic Vosges and Black Forest, adding an additional transit overnight in Colmar, breaking up the ride to the Black Forest! The Tour starts at Dover where we meet to board our early morning ferry to Calais. Once in France we will make quick progress to our (half board) transit hotel in Reims on Day One, with the opportunity to stop in Cambrai for a late lunch.
Day Two will be a relaxed but progressive ride to our first Tour hotel through the Alsace Region and the Ballons des Vosges Regional Park. Follow the D417 into the heart of the Vosges and over the Col del la Schluct to arrive in Colmar for our one night (B&B) stay, with secure underground parking for the bikes. There are plenty of restaurants in the old historic town centre just a short walk from our hotel for our evening dinner. On our return from Germany we will be located in Colmar for a further two nights taking advantage of one last full ride out experience!
Day Three is a scenic ride into Germany to our quality (half board) biker friendly hotel where we are based for three nights. Located in the heart of the Black Forest, just south of Freudenstadt and conveniently located a short distance from the Schwarzwald Hochstrasse better known as the B500. This fast, winding, curvy scenic road takes you through the very heart of the Black Forest and must rate as one of the most iconic biking roads in Europe!
We will enjoy an excellent three course dinner each evening with a good breakfast to start the day. This is a great family fun hotel; with quality rooms each with a balcony, combined with first rate service and excellent cuisine! We are all then set to explore this amazing biking region of Germany, which has much more on offer than just the B500!
Day Six will see us ride a short distance back west over the Rhine, for a two night stay in our modern (B&B) hotel in the historic town of Colmar, with its cobblestone streets and half-timbered medieval buildings. MSL Tours has stayed here previously so we know what to expect! We are located close to the old historic town centre, with an excellent choice of quality restaurants to enjoy our evenings out. Located just east of the Parc Naturel Régional des Ballons des Vosges, we are perfectly placed to enjoy the Vosges Mountains with stunning landscapes and amazing roads that just keep on giving!
You will have the opportunity to ride the most iconic roads and passes in the Vosges! Including the Route des Cretes along the D430, traversing the Grand Ballon over the D431, the Col de la Schlucht along the D417 and the Col du Bonhomme on the wide, sweeping D415. Make no mistake these mountain passes may not be as high as the Alps, but they are challenging, technical, scenic and just great fun to ride!
On Day Eight we finally leave the Vosges and make our way back to Reims to re-visit our comfortable overnight (half board) transit hotel, before a short ride back to Calais on Day Nine for our afternoon crossing back home to Dover, reflecting on some great riding in the Vosges and Black Forest!
